The idea of this sort of character test originally sprang from the world of fanfiction. A "Mary Sue" was a non-main character that was usually perfect in every way and often stole the plot.
Now, in the world of role play, a "Mary Sue" has been further defined as a character, usually following the "Perfect in every way" archtype, that really makes it difficult for the RP to be fun for others. They are the extremes of the RP world. (Marty Stu is the male equivelent.)
Now, the details of what makes a Mary Sue/Marty Stu change for each continuity. For example, the first ever test I had seen was written for a Tamora Pierce-based RP, and thus had a lot of magic influences. This continuity does not have magic at all, so that wouldn't be a factor.
Directions: Take this and add up all the points that apply. There will be points after each line, and you add/subract (whatever it says) those points if that line applies to your character. Don't even bother trying to explain away WHY it applies to yourself, the important thing is if it does or not, not why. Might as well not lie to yourself, right?
Name and physical description
+Is your character's name your name? [+10pts]
++Or a variant of your name? [+5pts]
+Is your character's name a word that is not usually used as a name, or contain a word not usually used for a name? (Ex: Don Dangerous, Lela the Savage, etc.) [+5pts]
+Is your character's name one you really, really want? [+10pts]
+Is your character's last name a common ethnic name? (Ex: Baker, Mc- or Mac-something, O'-something, Garcia, Ahden, Koch, Giovanni, etc.) [-2pts]
+Would people consider your character skinny? [+5pts]
++To the point of anorexic? [+10pts]
+Is your character overweight? [-10pts]
+Does your character have scars? [+5pts]
++That detract from their looks? [-2pts]
+++That make them look more beautiful, or they are still beautiful inspite of them? [+10pts]
+Does your character have fair skin, blonde hair, and blue eyes naturally? [+5pts]
++Because they're German/Scandanavian? [-5pts]
+++But they are Asian/Hispanic/African? [+15pts]
+Does your character look a lot older than they are? [+10pts]
