The sun shone through a layer of rain clouds. A chilling breeze blew, and everybody was in their hoodies. Except Jaysene. It was a couple degrees above zero, and an icy chill still clung to the wind. This was spring weather where she came from, so she stood in the picnic, black teeshirt and skinny jeans slightly damp from recent rain, a bright grin on her face.
It almost reminded her of her old school. Two large trees, birch, no doubt, grew from opposite ends of the place. One had a low branch, just high enough to grasp if you had a running start. Jaysene ran up to it, jumped, grasped! JUST got it. She pulled herself up with a disconserting ease. The midsrping sunlight had made a good cover of leaves up there.
Making herself comfortable, with her back against the trunk, a pair of green eyes peered out between branches and foliage, making sure nobody else was planning to climb this tree. Pulling out a book that had been nestled between the fabric of her teeshirt and her back, Jay found her blonde hair strand she had used as a bookmark. Leafing through the pages, she found it's slight green color standing out. Markers in class were always useful.
Reaching for a cupcake headphone attached to an iPod, she pressed a familiar button, and her favorite band's song began to play. "Trading in who I've been. I like to push it and push it until my luck is over" she sang quietly.
"When the mirrors and the lights and the smoke clear, you'll never guess how we ever could'a got here. You can say watcha say when the lights go down, so shake shake shake and shut your mouth!"
Tan eyelids closed slowly but surely, after days of no sleep.

Carena shivered as the cold breeze cut through her sweater. She had come out to the courtyard despite the chill because she had wanted to read, and nobody was outside, having the good sense to stay indoors at the sight of the wind and the sound of it's whistling noise.
Still, Carena came out for the peace and quiet. It was irritating to have to deal with feedback noise- people chattering, games being played, and so on when all Cara really wanted to concentrate on was her book, so although she was absolutely freezing, she was happy to be alone.
Until leaves started to fall on her book, and the tree above her bench started to shake a little. Cara sighed and placed her book in her bag, knowing that it was now impossible to postpone the inevitable- the wind wasn't just creating a whistling sound anymore, it was actually causing the tree to shake- unless....
Cara looked up to see a girl about her own age way up high in the tree. She appeared to be completely unfazed by the weather as well, and she seemed to be rather preoccupied with whatever she was doing. Cara didn't mind the weather and being alone- but she was shocked that the girl was that high up when the wind was starting to get strong.
Well, to each their own. she thought to herself as she picked up her backpack and with a grunt put it on her back. It seemed to be twice her weight- she would really need to ask for one of those ones that was on wheels for her next birthday-this one was just too much, and the wind made it even worse to carry.

As the wind got stronger, Jay woke from her small nap. Green eyes seemed shocked at the change in weather, adn a panicked voice cried Woah!! WOAH!!! as she swayed. Looking down, she saw the ground come closer, go farther, come closer, go farther. There was somebody in the courtyard, but she didn't care. Right now, she feared for her life, and the weather. Wind usually meant thunderstorm. Thunderstorm meant GET THE HECK OUTTA THAT TREE.
Climbing down with quick, fearful movements, she reached the ground in half the time it took her to get up. Book in her hands, she blushed. Well, that's one reputation ruined.. Looks like popularity was shot.. Oh well, it could be worse. May as well introduce oneself to the other. Even if oneself had just embarrassed themself by screaming from the top of a swaying tree, and their hair looked looked like a very messy, dirty, tangled haystack.
Hey, I'm Jaysene. I'm kinda new here, so I'm not sure if we're allowed to climb trees or not. I hope we are..she yelled over the wind, nervously brushing her hand on her shoulder. Who was this kid? She looked quiet, and.. Was that a book in her hand ? Maybe they weren't that different.
Who're you? she asked curiously, with her head tilted sideways just so.
